Dangerous trek into work

WORKERS faced a treacherous journey into South Shields town centre this morning.
Many fell across the ice laying on pavements.
The worst affected areas were the square outside Lloyds TSB in Barrington Street and Waterloo Square – and there was no signs of any grit having been laid.
A kind-hearted maintenance man had taken it upon himself to lay some of his own grit along the main crossing points beside Next and River Island – even though it wasn't his job.
Council bosses today urged people to take care.
