A FAMILY home was targeted by burglars twice in less than a week.
The first raid happened during the night on June 11, when property including a games console, a handbag and the family car were all taken while the occupants were asleep.

Just three days later, on June 14, the house in Pollard Street, South Shields, was targeted again in an afternoon raid, during which the kitchen window was removed while the family were out.

Stuart McMahon, 18, of Wallington Grove, South Shields, admitted he took part in both raids and pleaded guilty to two charges of burglary.

A 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named, admitted taking part in the latter raid and admitted one charge.

At Newcastle Crown Court yesterday, McMahon was sentenced to a community order with supervision for two years, and 120 hours unpaid work.

The youth was sentenced to a supervision order for two years, with a three-month curfew between 8pm and 7am.

The Recorder, Christopher Batty, said although the offences were serious, both teenagers have prospects of staying out of trouble, and are engaging with those trying to help.
