CHRISTMAS has come early for elderly residents in a Jarrow care home, thanks to a grant from its local Community Area Forum.

Needham Court, in Stanhope Road, Low Simonside, has been awarded a Jarrow Community Area Forum grant of almost £330 to cover the cost of a Christmas outing and festive food for its social group.

The money will enable the group to go to see a pantomime at The Customs House in South Shields, as well as enjoy a Christmas meal.

Coun Tom Hanson, chairman of the Jarrow Community Area Forum, said: "We were delighted to be able to support Needham Court and spread some festive cheer by giving them this money.

"My best wishes to them all for a happy and peaceful Christmas."
The Needham Court social group, which has 48 members, was formed last year.
