GOLFERS have raised thousands of pounds for charity after completing five rounds in a day.
The Longest Day Golf Challenge was held at South Shields Golf Club, and lasted for almost 17 hours.

Organisers hope to have raised between £6,000 and £6,500 for St Clare's Hospice in Jarrow, through sponsorship and the proceeds of a charity night.

The event was organised in memory of cancer victim Lisa Carr, 29, by friends and family of her husband, Paul.

The mum-of-two, of Robert Street, South Shields, died in March after a two-year battle with astrocytoma, a type of brain tumour.

Family friend Lee Auty, 32, of South Shields, said: "It was an excellent day, and the night was fantastic."
