Green light for 999 call centre

PLANS for a new ambulance call centre in Hebburn have today been approved.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has chosen the Monkton Business Park site for the new £225,000 contact centre.

The South Tyneside base beat 14 sites across North East England.

This means the current system, where 999 calls are shared between centres in Middlesbrough and Newcastle, will end.

The centre will receive 999 calls and dispatch ambulances across the region.
