GROUND investigation work is set to get under way at a key site on the South Shields riverside next week.
The work, at Harton Staithes, will start on Monday and is set to last for two weeks.
It will involve consultants drilling boreholes and digging trenches to assess ground conditions at the site.
South Tyneside Council's head of enterprise and regeneration, Rick O'Farrell, said: "The site forms a key part of the South Shields riverside regeneration area.
"It is identified for a mix of office and residential uses, together with a public park on the front half, with cafes, restaurant and other leisure facilities, linking along the length of the riverside.
"These are only proposals at this stage, and we will be carrying out further public consultation in the summer."
The temporary car park on Harton Staithes will be closed for the duration of the works.
Access to the Customs House via Harton Staithes will not be affected.
The Customs House car park will remain open during these works.
Anyone who has any queries in relation to the works should contact the council's economic development manager, Guy Currey, on 424 7579 or e-mail:
