HAVE you rubbed shoulders with the stars?
Then tell the world about it - via the Gazette.

We're giving you the chance to have your treasured snaps published in the paper and online in our new Snap A Celeb feature.

One of the perks of being a reporter is getting to meet famous people for interviews – and a photo, naturally.

To start us off, Gazette staff delved into their photo albums to dig out some pictures taken with some familiar faces.

News editor Helen Charlton met Jimmy Savile while on work experience for the Gazette, covering the 1997 Great North Run.

She said: "I spotted his gold jewellery glistening in the sunlight, heading towards the finishing line, and I knew I couldn't pass up this opportunity of meeting my first celebrity.

"He was great fun and insisted on giving me a big smacker on the cheek."

Reporter David MacLean met former Prime Minister Tony Blair when he gave a lecture in South Shields last year and Newcastle United writer Miles Starforth has been snapped with Toon legend Alan Sherer.

If you think you can do better than us, send your pictures to: Snap A Celeb, Newsdesk, The Shields Gazette, Chapter Row, South Shields, NE33 1BL.

You can also e-mail them to gazette.news@northeast-press.co.uk or send them as a picture message.

Text SHIELDSPIX (SPACE) and any other details, up to 160 characters, attach your photo and send it to 81800.
