THE festive season is officially under way in Hebburn now its Christmas lights have been turned on.
The Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun John Anglin and his wife Chris flicked the switch at Fountains Park in the town's Station Road yesterday, helped by children's entertainer Tommy the Trumpeter.

They set the town awash with twinkling fairy lights and festive decorations.

Coun Anglin said: "As always, it was a wonderful night.

"The lights look fantastic, and I'm sure they will bring festive cheer to the people of Hebburn."

Further entertainment was provided by youngsters from St Aloysius School, magician Mr Merlin and Christmas Crackers the festive fairy.
