A WOMAN has spent six weeks behind bars for repeatedly breaching a court order meant to keep her away from her parents.
Michelle Carter was made the subject of a restraining order by South Tyneside Magistrates' on August 28.

But Newcastle Crown Court heard how she breached it the first time within one day.

Carter, of East Avenue, South Shields, breached the order again the next day and was dealt with by magistrates on both occasions.

Between September 3 and September 5, she committed three more breaches by repeatedly contacting the couple – and landed herself behind bars.

Magistrates committed her case to the crown court.

The 30-year-old admitted all three breaches and was at court yesterday to be sentenced.

Her barrister Glen Gatland told the court: "She has been in custody for six weeks, and has felt very lonely and isolated.

"It is her first experience of custody and it has been quite devastating for her."

Judge Richard Lowden sentenced Carter to six-months' imprisonment, suspended for a year, meaning she was released immediately.

The Judge said: "I hope six weeks in prison has brought you to your senses."
