JARROW MP Stephen Hepburn potted a cash prize for St Clare's Hospice.

Mr Hepburn presented a £375 cheque after making it through to the quarter-finals of a pool tournament staged at the House of Commons.

The money was presented to Valerie Maggiore, a fundraiser for the hospice, in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow.

Mr Hepburn, who won the cash in the Parliamentary Annie's Bar tournament, said: "St Clare's Hospice is a highly-valued part of the local community.

"I hope in next year's tournament that I will progress further in the competition – and raise more money for charity in the process."

The hospice has annual running costs of more than £1m and constant fundraising is essential for the care of patients with life-threatening illnesses.
