THREE South Tyneside men have been cleared of a hammer attack.
Jordan Carruthers, 18, of Wellington Drive, Christopher Sorlie, 21, of Imeary Street, and David Maughan, 22, of Coleridge Avenue, all South Shields, were charged with grievous bodily harm.

But they were found not guilty by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court, on Friday due to a lack of evidence.

Mr Carruthers said: "We're just so glad the ordeal is over with."
The men had been charged after a 19-year-old man was attacked on West Way, South Shields, on Friday, May 30.

The teenager made his way home, and was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
