TWO men involved in a violent confrontation at a town centre restaurant have been spared jail.
Anthony Coyne, 28, and a 16-year-old, who cannot be named, argued with staff at the Terrasini Restaurant in Mount Terrace, South Shields, on May 26.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how during the incident, the teenager hurled racist abuse at the workers and kicked over a plant pot outside the restaurant.
When trouble spilled outside the premises, staff were pelted with half bricks and forced back inside.
The 16-year-old admitted affray.
Coyne, of Northbourne Road, Jarrow, who suffered an injured hand and had initially tried to break up the trouble, admitted a lesser public order
offence.
Judge David Hodson sentenced the teenager to a three-month action plan.
Coyne was sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.
Judge Hodson branded the behaviour that night "disgraceful".
