A DEVASTATED mum today told of her heartache after her fiancé suddenly died during a stag party with his pals in Greece.
Paul Sloyan had a fit and collapsed minutes after stepping off the plane arriving at Rhodes Airport.
The 38-year-old was rushed to hospital with a broken rib and was said to be "recovering well" in hospital by the Thursday.
But the next morning his body reportedly went into shock and he died.
And his fiancé Lorraine McCabe, 46, only found out about the death when she rang the hospital on Friday afternoon to see how he was.
Speaking from the home she shared with her partner of five years in Dame Flora Avenue, Simonside, South Shields, Miss McCabe said: "I phoned up and asked to speak to Paul, but the doctor told me 'he died two hours ago'.
"I couldn't believe it. I was hysterical.
"He walked out that door on June 17 and asked me what I wanted for a present. I said 'I just want you', but he never came back.
"I keep texting his phone telling him I don't know if I can go on without him."
Mr Sloyan, an electrician, was beginning a week-long holiday in Falaraki to celebrate his friend's stag party.
The dad-of-one and Manchester United fanatic had a history of health problems which caused him to have random fits.
But until the latest episode, he had not had one for nearly two years, said Miss McCabe, who is questioning the treatment he received in the Greek hospital.
She says she will not stop fighting until she finds out the truth, and added: "I need answers. I need to know exactly why he was OK one minute, and dead the next.
"I don't know whether I'm just looking to blame someone, but he's had fits in the past and has recovered every time because of the treatment."
Originally from Manchester, Mr Sloyan, who has a seven-year-old daughter called Isabelle, moved to South Tyneside five years ago, and moved in with Miss McCabe soon after.
Miss McCabe, who has a 22-year-old son called Christopher, says the death still hasn't sunk in.
The Asda checkout worker added: "I still expect him to walk in the front door wearing his cap that he always wears.
"Until I see his coffin I don't think I'll truly believe he's dead.
"He was such a great bloke, and everyone around here loved him.
"I've had loads of strangers knocking on my door telling me how they liked him."
Mr Sloyan's body is due to be transported back to the UK today and a post mortem examination will take place at South Tyneside District Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be made after that.
