NOMINATIONS are being accepted now for 10 categories in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.
CARER OF THE YEAR
Carers do amazing work and provide endless value to the people they care for. This category is open to both paid and voluntary carers who may have shown selflessness in their care for others, or made a real differe
nce to the quality of life of others.
Last year's winners: Claire Turnbull, Elle Tollett and Andrew Holmes

COMMUNITY GROUP OF THE YEAR
This award will go to any group of paid or voluntary people whose actions, strength and support has made a real difference in their community.
Last year's winner: South Tyneside Arts Studio

GREENER SOUTH TYNESIDE
This award recognises the commitment if individuals or groups of all ages who are doing their bit for the local environment. Examples could include:
•Preserving the environment through activities such as saving water and looking after the surrounding wildlife;
•Taking part in projects including tree and vegetable planting;
•Reducing waste by recycling household items and home composting;
•Keeping South Tyneside clean by reporting and picking up litter.
Last year's winner: Green Lane Oasis

SPORTING EXCELLENCE
This award will go to an individual or team who has made excellent progress in a sporting activity.
Last year's winner: Nathaniel Scott (trampolinist)

TOP ACHIEVER
This award will go to a person, group or team who has made excellent progress in education or made an invaluable contribution to work on a daily basis, or on a specific project.

CHILD OF COURAGE
Some children have to deal with circumstances and problems that have a major impact on their lives and may even be life-threatening. Children can be very strong and this award will go to a child who has shown outstanding bravery through tough times.
Last year's winners: Abigail Young and Katie Leadbitter

GOOD FRIEND/NEIGHBOUR
This award will go to an individual, couple or family whose actions make a positive impact on the lives of their friends and/or neighbours. Examples could include:
•Providing friendship in times of trouble;
•Providing help with household chores;
•Providing vital support, such as transport or looking after children;
•Looking after a friend's or neighbour's home while they are aware.
Last year's winner (Good Neighbour): Jen Bullock

ROLE MODEL OF THE YEAR
This award will go to a person who is a positive influence to others. Role models don't have to famous. They could be volunteers, family, friends and work colleagues.
Last year's winner: Joan Small

YOUNG PERFORMER(S) OF THE YEAR
Open to both individuals and groups under the age of 21, nominees could include dancers, singers, bands, actors, comedians and other entertainers, such as jugglers and ventriloquists.
Last year's winner: Jonathan Winter

JUDGES' SPECIAL AWARD
This award does not require nominations. It will be chosen by the judges.
