Thief rode away on unlocked bike

AN unlocked bike left in the doorway of a supermarket proved too tempting to a passing thief.

The pink bike had been left outside Tesco, in Newcastle Road, South Shields, on May 16, as the owner did their shopping.

When they returned at just after 6.30pm the bike was gone.

Police investigating have released these CCTV pictures in a bid to trace a man wanted in connection with the theft.

The man was spotted on camera allegedly looking around to see if anyone was watching before getting on the mountain bike and riding off.

The incident happened on May 16 around 6.30pm.

Anyone with information to the identity of the man pictured is asked to contact police on 03456 043 043 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Callers are asked to quote crimestoppers number 374.
