YOUNG boxers from South Tyneside will rub shoulders with their sporting heroes this weekend.
A group of 10 young fighters from Bilton Hall Boxing Club, Jarrow, will attend a star-studded dinner function at the Premier Inn, Newcastle, on Saturday.
Among those in attendance will be former world light heavyweight champion John Conteh, ex-world middleweight champion Alan Minter and former welterweight champion John H Stracey.
Other ex-world title holders appearing will be light welterweight Terry Marsh, flyweight Charlie Magri and cruiserweight Glenn McCrory.
Bilton Hall coach Martyn Devlin said: "Our young boxers have previously met up with world boxing legends Sugar Ray Leonard and Ricky Hatton at our Jarrow gym.
"This Saturday, they'll get together with six former world champions and our young fighters will get a big kick out of mixing with some of the best boxers of all time.
"At the dinner, they'll listen to the champions talk about their careers, receive tips and have their photographs taken with them, plus get their autographs."
Based at Low Simonside Community Association in Taunton Avenue, Jarrow, the gym has produced a string of talented young fighters over more than two decades.
The Saturday night special will also include a three-course dinner, big screen fight clips, speakers and entertainment.
Also in attendance will be former Hebburn boxer Maxie Walsh and members of the Tyneside Ex-Boxers' Association.
Tickets for the evening, which starts at 7.30pm, are available by contacting 422 3816 or (0775) 251 5280.
