Two vehicles and a lorry have crashed at Washington services this morning.

The incident - which is separate from an earlier crash on the A19 - took place on the southbound side of the carriageway at the junction of A1231.

The incident took place around 7.40am and ambulance crews were called to scene.

The accident is also causing problems on the northbound carriageway as drivers slow down to look.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles and one lorry.

"We received the call at 7.39am and sent one ambulance to the scene.

"No one was injured or taken to hospital in the incident."
