VISITORS to Bede’s World in Jarrow will be able to try their hand at calligraphy during the school summer holidays.
Angela Reed, from Creative Calligraphy, will be demonstrating the craft at drop-in taster sessions, and also talking about her new business.
The 32-year-old, from South Shields, was introduced to calligraphy at secondary school. She now offers a calligraphy service for weddings and other special occasions.
She said: “Bede’s World has been really supportive of my business, so I’m delighted to be able to give something back by adding something extra to their summer programme.
“With the Codex Amiatinus on display at the museum, it will be great to show people just how much effort went into writing such an impressive manuscript.”
The taster sessions will take place tomorrow, then Friday, August 8, and Friday, August 22, between noon and 3pm.
There will be a charge of £2 per person, in addition to the usual museum admission price.
Angela has also been invited to give a talk next Wednesday at 1pm, as part of the Bede’s World Summer Salons.
A Bede’s World spokesman, said: “As part of our Banners of the North exhibition, we are inviting people to come into Bede’s World and tell us about themselves, what links they feel to our exhibition artefacts and why.
“Every afternoon in the summer holidays, there will be somebody in the museum with a story to tell, or something to show or a performance to give.
“So come and join us and find out what a fascinating bunch of people we are in the North.”
