THE true spirit of Christmas was brought to life with a musical concert by an arts group.

Members of the Ocean Arts Roadshow group put on a festive performance of traditional Christmas songs to an audience of over-50s at their base in Trinity House Social Centre, Laygate, South Shields.

The show included renditions of Jingle Bells, Silent Night and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Singers Julie Taylor and Ros Moffett performed beautifully throughout the show, while the rest of the cast acted out the songs in festive costumes.

The members, volunteers and carers have worked tirelessly over the last few months to create their festive performance which included a snowball fight, Santa Claus and the traditional nativity theme with Caroline Payne as Mary and Scott Laverick as Joseph.

Sarah Wales, secretary of Ocean Arts, said: “The performance was fantastic.

“I can see how hard everyone has worked to put this all together.

“It was great to see such a good audience who were really enthusiastic and the show got everybody in a festive mood.”

Ocean Arts is a voluntary organisation set up to provide a creative outlet for adults with learning disabilities.

The group will be working towards taking their shows out and about in the community to residential homes and community centres.
