‘Bid to turn home into accountant’s office doesn’t add up’

PLANS to convert a four-bedroom home in South Shields into an accountancy office just don’t add up, neighbours say.

Members of the council’s planning committee will next month consider an application from Rider Accounting Limited, trading on a single floor in Stanhope Road, South Shields.

The company wants to convert a vacant two-storey mid-terraced property on the west side of Westoe Road as its new base.

Two letters of objection have been received from residents living close to the conversion site.

They say putting a business in a predominantly residential setting is “inappropriate”, and have expressed concern that staff parking will result in an increase in congestion problems in the area.

But members of the planning committee will be recommended to approve the application when they meet at South Shields Town Hall on Monday, June 9, from 10am.

A report to the committee says: “Offices are by definition not compatible with residential uses.

“It is considered the nature of this particular office use is such that the level of comings and goings would be very limited and insufficient to create an unreasonable disturbance or loss of privacy at adjacent residential properties.”
