A WOMAN driver had to be cut free from a car after a crash in the grounds of South Tyneside District Hospital today
Firefighters from South Shields and Washington were called to the hospital, in Harton Lane, South Shields, at 4.23pm.
Two cars, a Ford Mondeo and a Vauxhall Insignia, are believed to have collided with one another.
The road in the hospital grounds was closed for a short time to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
One woman is believed to have suffered back injuries in the collision.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “There has been a collision around the back of the hospital grounds.
“One car was involved and the fire service is currently working to free the trapped driver from their vehicle.”
