Tenderly cradling his baby sister, Cole Turbitt was devastated when she lost her battle for life at the age of just 14 weeks.

Tiny Miley Turbitt fought for survival, on a life support machine, against severe heart condition hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

But on November 12, her fragile body gave up, unable to cope any longer as medical experts desperately searched for a heart donor.

Her death devastated her family including older brother Cole, who each night sings ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star” to a star named after his baby sister.

Today, the youngster, who attends Harton Primary School in South Shields, wants to tell people how much he loves his sister as he appeals to the public to “please help” with his family’s campaign.

Yesterday, the Gazette launched In Miley’s Memory, a campaign to encourage more people to sign up to the organ donation register.

Download a petition here and print it out for your friends and family to sign.

They are also petitioning for a change in the system, so people are automatically registered for organ donation unless they opt out.

Little Cole said: “I love my sister. She had a poorly heart. We didn’t find a new one and she plays with the angels now.”

Although he is too young to understand the organ donation process, Cole knows it’s important and says “please help”.

His proud mum Sharon Eckert, 38, said: “Cole has been so brave.

“When we started planning the campaign, he just wanted to help.

“He is too young to understand it all, but he knows Miley had a poorly heart and we had been looking for a new one for her.

“He used to sing Twinkle, twinkle little star to her and he still does that.”

“He has been to see the police and the fire brigade, who are supporting the campaign, and they have both been fantastic with Cole.

“They have really made him feel part of the campaign, which is helping him, but it is also helping us as a family. I can’t thank them enough.”
