Readers have spoken of their joy at seeing Jermain Defoe and Bradley Lowery lead out England at Wembley.

The Sunderland striker walked out ahead of his country’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Lithuania holding the hand of the five-year-old cancer battler, from Blackhall Colliery.

Goalkeeper Joe Hart, who was named England captain for the match, kindly allowed the pair who have become close friends in recent months, to lead the team onto the pitch.

And Bradley proved to be a good luck omen for Jermain, who opened the scoring with a first-half strike and went on to be named Man of the Match.

A Jamie Vardy goal in the second-half saw England win the qualifier 2-0.

Scores of readers took to the Facebook to leave comments of support for Bradley, who has terminal neuroblastoma.
