A BUILDER from South Tyneside is laying the foundations for success after earning a nomination for a regional accolade.
James Marr, 36, of Bewick Street, South Shields, has fronted JM Joinery and Building Specialists for 10 years and has 20 years of experience in the trade.
He will be representing the borough’s best builders at the Northern finals of the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards. The father-of-one was selected by South Tyneside Council’s building control department, which oversees the standards of builders and their work, to represent the borough in the Best Small Builder category section of the awards.
The joinery and building specialist will face competition from firms all over the North East in the awards bash, being held at the Gateshead Hilton hotel in June.
Mr Marr said; “I was told I had been nominated from 152 firms by the building control team and will be representing South Tyneside in the category. It’s great because there is so much bad press about cowboy builders, and with all the programmes on TV.

“This shows that you are someone who can be trusted to do work to the right standard.
“I’m a joiner by trade and started when I left school, so I’ve been in the trade for 20 years.”
Mr Marr says a healthy supply of his work comes because of positive word-of-mouth from customers, showing the benefit of a job well done.
If he wins the regional award, he will go forward for the national finals in London at the end of the year, against the best builders across the country.
