A SOUTH Tyneside cargo ‘travel agent’ is celebrating shipping £5m of business around the world.
TF Shipping, based at The Quadrus Centre, Boldon, has quadrupled in size in just five years, handling the international travel arrangements for commercial cargo and vehicles.
The company now specialises in the import of garments and other goods from across Asia, and exporting a wide range of products in containers or by vehicle directly on to vessels.
Director, Tim Finley, who launched TF Shipping after working in the sector for 18 years, said: “When I first started the business five years ago, I wanted to use my knowledge and contacts within the industry to create a company which had real growth potential.
“Being based at The Quadrus Centre gave me the time to just get on and do the job without being distracted by some of the smaller operational issues which can take time to resolve, such as the internet and phone connections.
“As a travel agent for cargo, we manage the door-to-door service of freight forwarding, and we have plans in place to expand ever further into new markets across the world.
“Through hard work and determination, we have built the business up from nothing to achieve a £5m turnover last year, which considering the economic situation since we first started trading has been a particularly major achievement.”
Mr Finley, who started out as a sole trader, now heads a four-strong shipping operation.
Thanks to its ongoing success, TF Shipping recently moved into bigger premises at Quadrus to accommodate its growing team.
Alex Wiley, marketing manager at Tedco, said: “Businesses such as TF Shipping are testament to the power of incubator units in understanding the difficulties that can be faced in maintaining and accessing everyday services when time and manpower is reduced.
“At Quadrus, we want nothing more than our businesses to grow, so we help wherever we can with flexible terms, IT and communications services and regular networking events.
“We congratulate Tim and the team at TF Shipping for their achievements over the past five years, and look forward to continuing our working relationship in the coming years.”
