A PUB business in South Tyneside is ale and hearty after toasting new expansion plans.

Tonight sees the launch of the Jarrow Beer, Sausage and Cocktail Festival at The Maltings, in Claypath Lane, South Shields.

The festival, which lasts until Saturday, will see more than a dozen Jarrow Brewery ales on offer, including new beers like The Last Ship, plus sausages made from beer, beer “cocktails”, and the launch of the thriller novel Gladio, by regional writer Steve Chambers.

The festival will also help celebrate Jarrow Brewery’s ambitious growth plans. After experiencing problems financing the business, Jarrow Brewery has received help from financial expert Paul Minnikin and Paul Thompson, from York-based Acorn Commercial Finance, who have now formed JB Finance, based at the borough brewery’s new plant, at Bede Industrial Estate, Jarrow.

The new finance company plans to help credit flowing to companies like Jarrow Brewery and other expanding firms in the area.

Plus, Jarrow Brewery has just added another pub to its expanding commercial empire after agreeing to buy The Jarrow Crusaders, in Walter Street, Jarrow, while it is seeking a tenant for the company-owned Magnesia Bank, in North Shields.

Meanwhile, a company share issue announced last year is awaiting registration.

Jarrow Brewery owner Jess McConnell, said: “We’re hoping to raise £1m during 2014 in four tranches, so anybody at all can contact us with expressions of interest.

“We have had applications for shares from small investors, who are simply fans of the brewery, right through to people in the City.”

Jarrow Brewery has also just appointed Mike Berriman, who has a wealth of experience in the brewery business, as its sales and marketing manager.
