COUNCIL bosses in South Tyneside are today due to sign a deal which aims to create 5,000 hi-tech manufacturing jobs.
The Sunderland and South Tyneside City Deal includes plans to develop an International Advanced Manufacturing Park on land to the west of the A19 and north of the current Nissan site.
The £87.5m deal aims to create 5,200 jobs in the manufacturing park and a further 3,200 by 2031.
The official signing will involve Cities Minister Greg Clark, the leader of South Tyneside Council, Coun Iain Malcolm and Sunderland City Council boss, Coun Paul Watson.
City Deals are designed to give local authorities more freedoms to promote localised economic growth and this deal will see Sunderland and South Tyneside working closely with the new North East Combined Authority.
It is expected to attract nearly £300m of investment.
