TRAVEL agent staff in South Tyneside have won a top national award for the fifth year running.

Family firm, Westoe Travel, based in Westoe Road, South Shields, picked up the coveted UK Travel Agent of the Year accolade in the industry’s awards competition.

The Association of British Travel Agents Brit Awards are presented annually to businesses which help sell and promote holidays and travel offers in the UK.

The family firm, which is owned by Graeme and Joan Brett, with son Martin and daughter Gillian also working full-time in the business, has now become the first in the country to receive the award five times in a row.

Joan said: “We are delighted to be the first to win this award five times in a row.

“We have had another very busy year, and it is a great honour to be recognised in this way by the travel industry at these prestigious national awards.

“Having received recognition from the Australian, USA and Canadian tourist authorities for our work, it is fantastic to also receive recognition from the UK travel industry

“We would like to thank all our customers for their continued support.”

Westoe Travel was set up 25 years ago in the back of the family newsagent’s shop and has gone from strength to strength.

The business has continued to expand and is now the biggest independent travel agency for the sale of UK holidays.
