NEW jobs are set to go online after a national computer company launched a new base in South Tyneside.
Specialist Computer Services (SCS) has moved into a unit in Witney Way, Boldon Business Park.
The new base complements its existing offices in Manchester, Wolverhampton and Glasgow, employing 50 staff in total.
A small staff at Boldon will be boosted as the operation develops, with recruitment of local workers already under way.
SCS has provided specialist project management and support to education and public sector ICT for more than a decade.
Earlier this year, the company was awarded a contract to supply ICT support to a number of secondary schools and academies in South Tyneside and Gateshead.
Coun Michael Clare, lead member for regeneration and economy at South Tyneside Council, said: “We are always delighted to welcome new businesses to South Tyneside, and especially pleased to greet companies like Specialist Computer Systems, who are choosing the borough to expand their operations.
“South Tyneside is globally recognised for attracting businesses with excellence in specialist fields. This is a great asset for the region, as it builds up the borough’s impressive skills portfolio and shows how we can diversify in developing South Tyneside’s economic future.”
Richard Holland, service director for SCS, said: “Our new office is perfectly situated for our client sites, is easily accessible and very cost-effective. We have settled into Boldon easily, with a lot of help from South Tyneside Council. The move into the office was seamless.
“SCS aims to grow the business in the North East and we are bringing in additional staff.
