A SCHOOL-LEAVER who used her initiative to find work is celebrating after being given a full-time job.

When 16-year-old Amy Calvert heard that local company Beyond Digital Solutions was looking for an apprentice, she went straight to its offices at Boldon Business Park, armed with her CV.

Now, just months into her one-year apprenticeship, the determined teenager has landed a full-time administrative post with the firm, after impressing bosses with her drive and enthusiasm.

Amy, from Boldon, is urging others to follow her example.

“When I left school I knew college wasn’t for me,” she said, “so I researched which firms were offering apprenticeships and Beyond Digital was one of them. So, straight away, I just put on my smartest clothes and went round to see them.”

Beyond Digital MD Louise Richley said: “Our vacancy had already been filled but, when it didn’t work out, we lost no time in getting in touch with Amy. We were just so impressed by her motivation and her willingness to work.”

Along with on-the-job experience, her apprenticeship has enabled Amy to study for an NVQ.
