A SISTER act has served up a delicious business idea in South Tyneside.
Enterprising siblings Karen Kendal and Angela Harris have just launched the Village Delights café, in Sunderland Road, South Shields.
The sisters always planned to launch their own business, so their new venture is the realization of a long-held dream.
Mrs Harris said: “From being young children, we always aspired to running our own tea rooms.
“We both felt the time was right for a change of career.”
While Mrs Kendal worked in retail for many years, her sister recently took early retirement as a headteacher.
The South Shields-born sisters sought advice from Bill Hartshorne at Tedco, who proved a great support, helping them develop their business concept.
Village Delights currently offers a full dine-in menu, including afternoon tea, plus a takeaway menu for those in a hurry.
Future plans include developing the business for outside catering and deliveries.
Mrs Kendal said: “We hope to be even busier once the children are back to school, and we have just received our first order for a birthday cake.”
Since opening three weeks ago, business has been brisk, with Village Delights welcoming customers from near and far.
Mrs Harris added: “We are a friendly, family-run café offering home-made and quality produce.
“Friendly staff welcome customers, and we hope that if people come in as strangers, they leave as friends.”
Village Delights is open from Monday to Saturday, 9am until 5pm.
