PARKING, events and marketing were on the agenda when a group set up to identify ways of attracting more shoppers to South Shields town centre held its first meeting.
The South Shields Town Team is made up of traders, councillors and council officers and provides a forum for the discussion of ideas aimed at enhancing the town centre.
It is one of more than 320 Town Team Partners to be established across the UK after the launch of the Government’s Portas Pilot scheme.
Coun Michael Clare, South Tyneside Council’s lead member for regeneration and economy, said: “We know that local businesses need our support, and the Town Team is an effective way of sharing ideas with local traders and listening to their views.
“Parking was the main topic of conversation and provided us with a good opportunity to remind people that we offer free parking in our Mill Dam and St Hilda’s Street car parks as well as the car park behind Ocean Road.”
