LESSONS must be learned to help prevent the repeat of a Tyne seafaring drama during which a container ship ran aground near a South Shields beach.

The Clonlee had been making her way down the river when an electrical fault caused her power to fail in the early hours of March 16 last year.

The 4,000-tonne vessel, which is registered in the Isle of Man, was later able to free herself and continued the journey into the Port of Tyne.
