A SOUTH Tyneside restaurant has proven it’s the ‘plaice’ to be once again.
Colmans of South Shields is the only fish and chip restaurant in the North East to be named in the Good Food Guide 2014.
It is the fourth year in a row the Ocean Road chippy has made the UK’s bestselling restaurant guide and is the only borough eatery to make the list.
Owner Richard Ord said: “We’re thrilled to be included in this prestigious guide again.
“It’s a real honour to make the list for a fourth year and we couldn’t be happier with what the reviewers said about Colmans.”
It is one of only 10 restaurants in Tyne and Wear and one of only 23 in the region to be in the annual guide which was released this month.
The entry for Colmans says: “’The finest fish and chips I have had in 65 years”.
The guide is compiled from scratch every year and inclusion in it is seen as one of the highest honours in the food industry.
Restaurants gain a place by meeting high standards while impressing independent inspectors.
Mr Ord added: “For us, this is what makes being in the Good Food Guide so special, the fact that it is a combination of experts and the public.
“Our customers are so important to us.
“Everyone at Colmans is just delighted to be in this position for a fourth time and we all hope to continue making the guide for many years to come.”
