A MUM and daughter are celebrating after going into business together.
Joanne Stobbs and her daughter Lauren Robson have opened a hair and beauty salon in Fielding Court, Biddick Hall, South Shields.
Dezire with Inner Beauty was officially opened on Saturday by deputy mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Fay Cunningham,
Mum-of-two Joanne, 43, said: “I’ve been a hairdresser for 28 years and I was at a salon called Jazz for nearly 20 years.
“Opening the salon with Lauren is very exciting, and we make an excellent team.
“Getting the salon just kind of happened, but we’re really happy and we’re just going to go for it.”
Lauren, 22, will leave the hairdressing to her mum while she carries out beauty therapy treatments and massage.
She said: “This is my first real business venture and it feels brilliant to be doing it with my mam.
“We were working at the same place when the opportunity came up to open our own salon, and we just went for it.”
A crowd gathered outside the salon to watch Coun Cunningham cut the ribbon.
It’s already proving to be a popular business, with appointments in the book right up until Christmas.
Joanne added: “We’re really excited to start getting customers in. We even have people making appointments for New Year’s Eve.
“I’ve got a very loyal group of clients who have followed me over the years, and I’m very thankful to them.
“It’s amazing to see so many people here today to watch the ribbon being cut.”
Ward councillors Olive Puncheon and Tom Pigott were also at the opening.
Coun Cunningham said: “It’s lovely to see a business opening up, and I do hope that everyone in Biddick Hall will give them some support, because small businesses do need all the support that you can give them.”
The salon opens its doors at 9am tomorrow.
