A CUTTING-edge firm and a borough business stalwart scooped the top prizes at the South Tyneside Business Awards 2013 tonight..
Watched by hundreds of members of the local business community, Performance Horizon Group was crowned Business of the Year at the glittering awards ceremony at South Shields seafront.
The company, based at state-of-the-art green complex One Trinity Green in South Shields, also clinched the title of Most Innovative Business. Vic Young, a prominent figure on the local business scene for decades, was presented with the Special Award, while his South Shields car dealership was also named Service Company of the Year.
Using specialised software, Performance Horizon Group allows companies to optimise their marketing and commission potential by tracking their sales via promotional on-line adverts.
The company’s South Shields base is complemented with offices in Madison Avenue, New York, and Clerkenwell Road, London.
Using its technological expertise, Performance Horizon Group helps firms streamline their marketing campaigns across the world.
Paul Fellows, chief operating officer at the firm, said he was “delighted” that his firm had been made business of the year.
He said: “The award is a real validation of our company.
“We now employ 60 staff at One Trinity Green, South Shields, and have just recruited three new people, with scope for more jobs.
“These awards are extremely important to our company, especially since this is the first time we have entered them, and we are thrilled.”
Vic Young has been a well-known member of South Tyneside’s business community for more than 30 years.
His commitment to the local economy was marked at the ceremony with both a personal Special Award and his car dealership being named Service Company of the Year.
An emotional Mr Young, who is celebrating 40 years of his family business, said “Our company supports some 70 families and I’m really choked to have won these awards. We look after people and have a 98 per cent retention rate of customers.
“These awards are not just about Vic Young, but about my great staff.
“We employ fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, and we are a real family business.”
Based in Newcastle Road, South Shields, Vic Young is known for its reliability of service to generations of loyal car owners, and its commercial links with Nissan.
But the company has also significantly expanded its portfolio in recent years, now incorporating Vic Young Mobility and Northern Truck Bodies. (NTB).
NTB is the preferred supplier for bodywork with Nissan, carrying out 99 per cent of conversions across the UK.
A pioneer in the field of mobility vehicles for disabled drivers, NTB also recently developed a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for the taxi industry.
