The parade will also feature street entertainers, including colourful festive stilt walkers, and the Three Wise Men on camels who will lead the procession through the centre of South Shields to the town’s seafront where Haven Point leisure centre will be illuminated with festive projections.

As the evening draws to a close, the crowds will be able to wave goodbye to the camels and the Three Wise Men as they continue their journey, before enjoying a live set of yuletide party favourites by the band Rose Parade.

The event will end with a dazzling finale of fireworks, set to classic Christmas songs, which will illuminate the night sky, with the display to be helped with rockets salvaged from Sunday night’s display, which was cancelled due to the high winds.

The event will also welcome back high-impact drumming group Spark! which will stage a performance combining lights and choreography.

Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader of the council with responsibility for culture and leisure, said: “Our spectacular Camel Parade is an unforgettable family event which has proven to be extremely popular with residents and visitors alike, year on year, thanks to its mix of fabulous family entertainment and live music.

“We are extremely excited to be welcoming back the dynamic drumming group Spark! who wowed crowds last year and are set to dazzle them once again.

“The Three Wise Men on camels are a popular feature of South Tyneside’s Christmas Wonderland extravaganza.

“They are sure to attract people of all ages to this event which is packed full of festive delights for all of the family to enjoy in the heart of South Tyneside.

“Crowds will be able to see the camels by lining Ocean Road and wave them goodbye as they continue on their journey along the seafront.

“We would then encourage people to make their way to the seafront to enjoy an array of entertainment as well as a thrilling firework finale.”
