missing his sister ... Miley Turbitts brother Cole with his donor card.

HOLDING his donor card with pride, little Cole Turbitt is now officially an organ donor.

The six-year-old asked his mother, Sharon Eckert, if he could sign up after being left devastated by the death of his 14-week-old sister.

Miley died in November while waiting for a heart to be found for her.

Cole has been instrumental in helping get the In Miley’s Memory campaign off the ground.

The campaign aims to encourage people to sign up to the organ donation register. Miley’s family have also launched a petition calling for a change in the donor system so that people are automatically registered unless they opt out of the scheme.

Download a petition here and print it out for your friends and family to sign.

The youngster has visited South Shields fire station and the town’s police station to tell staff there about his campaign.

Cole said: “Miley had a poorly heart. That’s why she died. She plays with the angels now. I wanted to be on the register so I can help save lives.”

The Harton Primary School pupil is now appealing to other people to follow his lead and sign up to the organ donation register.

His mum Sharon, 38, of Westmorland Road, South Shields, said: “I couldn’t be more proud of Cole.

“He was so excited when the card came through the post.

“He really misses Miley, and I think by doing this, it’s helping him, as he feels as though he is doing something for Miley.”
