STEFFEN Peddie has handed over the cash raised at the Hebburn Charity Comedy Gala.
The comic, who starred as Big Keith in TV sitcom Hebburn, met up with some of the people benefitting from the fundraising gig.
The event, held last month at Hebburn RAOB Club, in the town’s William Street, raised £1,250 each for cancer charity CLIC Sargent, Cancer Research’s Relay For Life, the British Thyroid Foundation and Jarrow-based Poppleton School of Dance.
It included stand-up from Hebburn creator Jason Cook, stars Chris Ramsey and Neil Grainger, and comic Dave Hadingham, South Shields singer Rosie Winter, and Steffen. The comic said: “These are great charities and organisations and that’s what it’s all about – benefitting local and national causes.
“The best bit is always going to hand the money over and seeing where it’s going and who’s going to benefit from it, and I was lucky enough to be able to do that.
“Everyone worked really hard to put the night together, and it’s always this bit that shows everyone it was worth all the stress.”
Steffen presented money to Tracey Poppleton and the members of her dance school, and Ann Walsh from Cancer Research’s Relay For Life.
He added: “This was the second time we’ve done the charity gala, and I think we’d all love for it to become an annual thing.
“For us, it’s a great way to get together and have a good laugh, and of course help out these great causes at the same time.
“I’m sure they’d all love for us to keep doing it every year.”
