Cricket Club honours its players at end of season awards ceremony

Cricketers and their families celebrated the end of the season with a night recognising the talent within their South Tyneside team.

The South Shields Bangladeshi Cricket Club hosted a special awards presentation at the Hedworth Hall, in Dean Road.

The event, held annually, aims to recognise those who have excelled in the sport throughout the season as well as inspire others to be the best they can be.

The team was created in 2009 and currently train at Marsden Cricket Club. They are sponsored by Spice One.

The event was attended by community leaders from throughout the North East.

Chairman of the club, Hussain Rupok, said: “A lot of our community leaders attended the awards presentation.

It’s a nice occasion to have everyone together to celebrate everyone’s achievements.

“As a team we are doing quite well and we wanted to show our families and our community leaders the talent we have within our team.

“It’s a nice occasion to have everyone together to celebrate everyone’s achievements.

“It also gives other players something to aspire to.”

Winners on the night included overall cup winner Nobigonj Rider; while the award for best all rounder was presented to Syed Emdad.

The best batsman trophy was handed to Dev Shudir while Al Helal Raju was presented with the accolade of best bowler.

GCSE achievement awards were also presented to Zakir Ahmed, Mizanur Rashid, Nabil Hassan, Tahmid Hussain and Nafisa Hussain.
