“MINDLESS vandals” have been slammed for attacking cars in a South Tyneside street.
Four cars parked in North Road, East Boldon, had their wing mirrors punched and kicked off during a wrecking spree.
Police say the cars were vandalised by a group of youths wearing hooded tops.
Coun Jeff Milburn, a Conservative representative for the Cleadon and East Boldon ward, said: “It is quite unusual in the area to be fair, but any sort of violence like this needs to be dealt with severely by the police.
“The police are on the case with this one and I’m sure they’ll do their best to catch these criminals.
“It’s nothing but senseless vandalism and it’s unacceptable in today’s society.
“This kind of behaviour should be dealt with severely and the people who have done this should come forward. It costs about £75 to replace a wing mirror and doing this sort of thing is just senseless.”
One resident said: “My daughter’s wing mirror was kicked off, and she didn’t find out until she left to go to work in the morning.
“She was very upset about it. They must have just walked along and kicked them all off as they went.
“It’s just mindless and it really ruins someone’s day.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information on the vandal attacks, which happened some time between midnight on Saturday and 12.30am on Sunday, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
