A MAN has been arrested after former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba was allegedly racially abused on Facebook.

The Senegalese star, who left Newcastle for Chelsea earlier this month, was attacked on the social networking site from a user who made reference to his religious beliefs and used abusive swear words.

The message was posted on a popular North-East football forum called North East Banter Page For The Top Three Big Clubs.

A 39-year-old Gateshead man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment and bailed pending further inquiries.
