PATROLLING police made a late-night drugs find after catching out a bike rider.
Nathan Blackett was riding a bike with no lights on in Jarrow when he was stopped by officers at 12.40am on Thursday, May 15.
They discovered the 22-year-old had heroin on him and he was arrested.
Blackett, of Salem Street, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Stan Sudworth, prosecuting, said: “Officers were on duty in Jarrow when they saw two males riding bikes with no lights on. They stopped them and one of the males was Blackett, who appeared to be under the influence of something.
“They found a plastic container with a brown substance on him.
“He said it was for his own personal use.”
Christopher Brown, defending, said: “He has no history of possession of Class A drugs.
“He is no longer involved with this drug.”
Magistrates asked for a probation report to be completed on Blackett ahead of sentencing.
He will be back in court on August 13 and was given unconditional bail until then.
