POLICE are investigating following reports that a woman was raped early today.
The incident happened in the women’s toilets of Eazy Street bar in Westmorland Road, Newcastle, at 2.20am today.
The 19-year-old victim, who was in the bar with friends, was attacked by a man when she went to the toilet.
He was described as being in his 20s and of Eastern European appearance, with short, dark, spiky hair, and wearing a black vest top and jeans.
After the attack, the man left the bar, and police were called.
Officers are carrying out inquiries, and are appealing for anyone who was in the bar or nearby at the relevant time and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police.
Officers are in the area to reassure the community and will speak to people about any concerns they may have.
Detective Sergeant Helen Anderson said: “We are appealing for anyone who recognises the man’s description or has any information to contact us.
“The welfare of the victim is paramount, and specialist officers are speaking with her to offer her the help and support she needs from our dedicated rape investigation team and the Sexual Assault Referral Centre to ensure she has the utmost support at what is an extremely distressing time for her.”
