A MAN who grew cannabis in his home has been ordered to do community service.
Police found five cannabis plants in Michael Demates’s home in Melrose Grove, Jarrow, during a search on July 27.
The 23-year-old, also known as Brown, pleaded guilty to producing the Class B drug when he appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
He was given a 12-month community order with supervision and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Demates was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
