POLICE have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to talk to about a shop theft in South Tyneside.

Officers want to trace the woman in connection with a bag being stolen from a wheelchair-bound customer in B&M Bargains in North Street, South Shields.

The theft happened between 1.30pm and 1.35pm on Friday.

Police say the 80-year-old victim was being pushed around the store in the wheelchair by a relative when the carer let go to pick an item off a shelf.

The offender seized that opportunity to unzip the bag hanging on the back of the wheelchair, stealing a purse containing a quantity of cash.

Anyone who recognises the person in the image or who witnessed the theft is being asked to come forward.
