A MAN was due to appear in court today after another man was airlifted to hospital after being found injured in a South Tyneside street.
Police and paramedics were called to Reginald Street, Boldon Colliery, just after 4.30pm on Saturday after reports that a man had been assaulted.
A 52-year-old was found with injuries to his head, side and hand.
He was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment, where he remained last night. His injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening.
Two men, aged 40 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH.
Gary Brennan, 29, of Glaisdale Court, Simonside, South Shields, was charged with wounding with intent to commit GBH and was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates Court today. A 40-year-old man was bailed pending further inquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses and have urged anyone who may have picked up any items of property from the area and taken them in for safe keeping to come forward.
