Customer accused of leaving restaurant without paying

A MAN accused of fleeing a South Tyneside restaurant without paying his bill will stand trial.

Lee Devlin pleaded not guilty to a charge of making off without payment at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 37-year-old is said to have left Cafe India in Ocean Road, South Shields, without paying a £32 bill.

Devlin, of Broughton Road, South Shields, will stand trial at the court on May 13.

He was granted bail until then on the conditions that he does not contact prosecution witnesses and doesn’t enter any food premises in Ocean Road.

* Wayne Harwood, 38, of Beach Road, South Shields, was due at court facing the same charge but did not show up.

Magistrates’ issued a warrant for his arrest.
