A SOUTH Tyneside man was so drunk when he stole an eight-pack of lager that he has no memory of the incident.
Adam Gibson, 22, picked up the Carlsberg cans and walked out of the Tesco Extra store in Roker on November 23.
Gibson, who works for a company making parts for Nissan, was arrested, and later admitted theft when he appeared before Sunderland magistrates.
He is subject to a crown court suspended sentence for GBH as well as a community order.
Willie Johnstone, mitigating, said: “Mr Gibson tells me there have been alcohol problems in the past.
“He tells me he was extremely drunk that night.
“He can’t even remember entering the store and stealing anything.
“I know that’s no mitigation but he was very drunk at the time.”
Gibson, of Greenlands, Hedworth, Jarrow, was handed a 12-month conditional discharge, and was told to pay £8 compensation and a £15 victim surcharge.
