A DRUNKEN flasher who performed a sex act in front of children in a garden has been spared jail.
Craig Charlton left the young girls “extremely upset”, after exposing himself near a garden fence in South Shields last summer.
The 21-year-old, of Green Lane, South Shields, admitted carrying out a sex act in the presence of a child and exposure.
Prosecutors at Newcastle Crown Court accepted Charlton’s pleas on the basis he did not know what he had done as he was so drunk.
Judge Roger Thorn QC sentenced Charlton to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with programme requirements.
He must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
The judge told him: “The prosecution accepted when your pleas were offered that this was more borne out of excessive drink rather than sexual appetite.”
Judge Thorn said this was a “rather unusual” case and warned Charlton about drinking alcohol in future.
The judge told him “watch your drinking” and added: “I hope you have thought about the effect of your behaviour on those young girls.”
